Tournament Structure for the Ryder Cup – 2021
The Ryder Cup pits a team of 12 men representing Europe against 12 men representing the USA. The selection process is different for both teams.
The European team, for example, is comprised of the top four players on the European points list which is otherwise known as the Race to Dubai. These are joined by the five leading players on the world points list, providing they haven’t qualified through 🌠the Race to Dubai.
Finally, the European team is completed by three wild card picks or captain’s picks. For the Americans, their captain has six wild card entries to select which will team up with the top six inܫ the USA’s points list.
Play takes place over three days starting on a Friday and finishing on a Sunday. It is a match play tournament with a total of 28 matches, each played over 18💙 holes. On Friday and Satur♎day, there are four four-ball matches (between two teams of two golfers scoring for themselves) and four foursomes (between two teams of two golfers taking alternate shots).
On the final day there are 12 singles matches where players from both teams compete against each other. The winner or winners of each match earn a point for their team with half a point awarded for any tied round. At the 🐎end of the tournament, the team with the most points will be crowned the winner.

In contrast, this is a relatively new American team who have six rookies in their ranks. Whether, given USA’s poor recent record, the move towards new blood over experience will pay off we will have to wait and see. It’ll certainly be interesting. World number two Dustin Johnson, former world number one Jordan Spieth and Brooks Koepka are the only USA golfers retained from Hazeltine in 2016 when the USA last won. Koepka has played two Ryder Cups so far, winning one and losing one, and can be backed to pick up the most points for Team USA at around 14/1.

For Europe that will likely mean Rory McIlroy teaming up with Ian Poulter and the all-Spanish duo of Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia lining up Friday morning. History of the Ryder Cup
In order to promote his seed business, Sam Ryder, a successful British seed salesman, created the concept of an international match between the United Kingdom and the United States. As a by-product of the tournament, it was also hoped that more American players would be encouraged to play in the Open Championship and, likewise, more British professionals to compete in the US Open.
The first Ryder Cup was intended for in 1926, but a strike meant that many of the US team could not attend, andඣ a team of replacement players from British Commonwealth countries took p🌠art instead.
The first seeds of the Ryder’s tournament were sown, and a year later the first US VS UK event took place as planned🏅 in Worcester, Massachusetts, with the American team winning the inaugural tournament. The teams were made up of 10 players a side which later on, in 1969 to be exact, increased to 12 men per team.
By 1979,ꦺ with the American side having won 15 of the previous 16 Ryder Cups, Jack Nicklaus proposed that the British team was expanded to include players from wider Europe to restore some💧 competition to proceedings. The move worked, and the Ryder Cup became far more competitive as a result.
The Ryder Cup is now the most eagerly anticipated event in the game of golf. The 43rd Ryder Cup had to be cancelled in 2020 due to thꦐe COVID-19 pandemic, but is set to take place in September 2021.
